How to get to island Murter?

What is the best way to reach the island Murter !? It is the most common question asked by potential visitors.

We have some good news for you: Island Murter is easily accessible by any mode of transport :)

If you want to get to the island Murter by car.....

Highway Dalmatina

From Split to Murter: 

Highway Dalmatina:

Enter the highway on the hub Dugopolje (town next to Split)

Dugopolje- Vučevica- Prgomet- Vrpolje- Šibenik- Skradin- Pirovac- hub for the island Murter

Trips last cca 2 hours

Adriatic highway (The old way)

If you take this route and drive from Split to Murter along the Adriatic highway, trip will last a little longer, cca 3 hours.

If you want get to island Murter by plane.....

Zagreb airport- Pleso  is well connected with many international airports. From Zagreb you can take bus to Šibenik or Vodice and from there with the local bus line you can come to the island. 

Airport in Split is also well connected with international airports, especially during the season. Some of the low fare european airlines like Easy Jet and Vueling connect Split with London and Rome for low prices. The best way to get from Split to Murter is to take the bus to Šibenik or Vodice and then with the local bus line you can come to Murter.  

The closest airport with only 40 minutes distance from the island Murter is Zadar airport. Zadar is well connected internationally and the most popular airline that flies from and to Zadar airport is probably Ryanair. This irish low fare airline connects Zadar to 14 different destinations in Europe. With Ryanair, you can can fly from Zadar to: Dusseldorf, Frankfurt, Baden Baden, Brussels, Dublin, Billund, Oslo, Haugesund, Gothenburg, Stockholm, London, Manchester, Paris and Marseille. From Zadar to Murter you can take a taxi that costs around 500 kn or go by bus to the hub Kapela and then wait a local bus to the island Murter.

If you want to get to island Murter by bus....

From Zagreb

If you are traveling with the bus from Zagreb to the island Murter the best way to get here is to take the bus that drives along the highway ( companies like Samoborček or Autotransport Šibenik ). Take the bus to Šibenik or Vodice. The trip lasts cca 4 hours. From Šibenik to Vodice you can take the local bus line to get finally to Murter.

From Split

Take the bus to Šibenik or Vodice and then with the local bus line get to Murter. The whole trip lasts cca 3 hours.

From Zadar

Take the bus that drives in direction to Vodice, Šibenik, or Split. Tell the driver that you want to go out on the hub for island Murter called Kapela. From Kapela you can take the local bus line to get to Murter (10 minute drive). The whole trip lasts cca 1 hour.

A brief history lesson...

WHAT?

Island Murter- the largest island of the Sibenik archipelago. It is consisted of four remarkable small towns called Betina, Jezera, Murter and Tisno. Inhabitants of the island Murter are mainly engaged in tourism, fishing and agriculture. Each town on the island and its population have specific characteristics. For example, people from Betina and Murter are known for their long tradition of shipbuilding; Jezera' s inhabitans are well known as skilled fisherman and sailors, while people from Tisno have a long tradition of agriculture.

Island Murter is situated in central Dalmatia, Šibenik- Knin county.

WHEN? 

Island Murter is rich in history. It was inhabited by the Ilyrians in prehistoric times, followed by Romans. It was mentioned for the first time by Plinije senior under the name Colentum. The remains of a Roman town Colentum are visible in the Murter town area at the foot of the hill Gradina.

Surfing the Internet, I realized that although Croatia is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the world, there is an obvious lack of information for tourists visiting our beautiful country. I live on beautiful island in central Dalmatia called Murter consisted of four towns (Jezera, Murter, Tisno and Betina ).
