A brief history lesson...


WHAT?

Island Murter- the largest island of the Sibenik archipelago. It is consisted of four remarkable small towns called Betina, Jezera, Murter and Tisno. Inhabitants of the island Murter are mainly engaged in tourism, fishing and agriculture. Each town on the island and its population have specific characteristics. For example, people from Betina and Murter are known for their long tradition of shipbuilding; Jezera' s inhabitans are well known as skilled fisherman and sailors, while people from Tisno have a long tradition of agriculture.

WHERE? 

Island Murter is situated in central Dalmatia, Šibenik- Knin county.

- 65 km from Zadar

- 105 km to Split

WHEN? 

Island Murter is rich in history. It was inhabited by the Ilyrians in prehistoric times, followed by Romans. It was mentioned for the first time by Plinije senior under the name Colentum. The remains of a Roman town Colentum are visible in the Murter town area at the foot of the hill Gradina.
